Planning for Music Video - Storyboard Ect.

This is our story board, showing awareness for our chosen locations and how we imagine the camera angles and view points to look. We corresponded the scenes and acts below the images with our script so it would be clear what is happening in each drawing, these are also linked with the timings below.

This is the timing sheet used to plan out how long shots would be, planning the locations of the shots was also essential at this point as the story board will later be completed.

This is  the boy cast for the main role in the music video.

These are the girls the the video, who happen to be the creators of this project. We have chosen myself and the boy above to play the main roles in the video as we are already a couple and would feel comfortable playing these roles, the relaxed nature shown in the video will hopefully reflect on the views, creating the layed back indie style we aim to create. The other two girls have also been chosen to show in the film so all three of us are given a shared part in both staring in and filming the video.

The following is a list of important things characters will need in order to star in our main production, props, settings and locations, lighting and camera angle have all been included in preparation to start filming.

Settings And Locations
1. The opening scene will take place in the living room, a natural fire will be lit so the lighting will be bright allowing the audience to see the actors actions clearly. The comfortable relaxed setting should make the audience feel right at home and they should find this scene relatebale. The following indoor scenes should also have this affect as we plan on purposely filming all the indoor scenes within the same house the vibes, lightly and decor of the house remain the same.
2. The short scenes to follow occur along a number of streets. I aim to film these scenes including as much light as possible by filming under or beside lamp posts as a slight change to lightly can have a huge affect. We aim to include both rural and suburban areas in order to keep the largest fan base as possible, it also shows a wide variety of locations allowing diversity, and we hope the weather will also remain diverse in order to show the passing of time and costumes will be arranged to co-onside with this.
3. We plan on filming the scene at the metro station in the evening as we want it to be relatively empty in order to portray the girl as being alone and vulnerable, allowing the audience to sympathise with her as the boy appears to be a figure of her imagination, the dark setting should help evoke this.
4. The scene in the supermarket maybe difficult to execute as we shall ask permission from the manager first, depending on his response we shall film outside and unfortunately loose the comical affect we aim to create. If successful the lightly will be perfect as its bright and will allow the audience to see everything clearly.
5. The final scene at the beach will be weather dependent due to our plans to create a bonfire, candles and lanterns in order to create a romantic setting and use lighting in an effective way, if the weather is bad the house in the opening scene will be used to symbolise the start of a relationship. Loads of fast moving hand held camera angles will be used in this scene to build tension as the video comes to an end.

Props
Before we go out to shoot we write a check list of all the items we need as we have learnt from past experiences.
1. The guitar plays an important role as it keeps the audience connected to the indie theme and adds a unique quality to the video as the audience grow curious. It also stops the male character looking like a numpty as it would even stranger if he was just standing watching the girl in most scenes.
2. The shopping trolley, basket and milk the main girl picks up during the supermarket scene, although they have no significance this scene is added for comic values as the randomness of the boys appearance and public humiliation maybe quite funny.
3. A few bags will be used, such as a shopping bag, school bag and a handbag in order to suggest the girls busy lifestyle
4. We also plan to use a small dog so the audience can relate to this or lighten the mood as dogs are proven to make people happier. It also makes the video more realistic as the girls more likely to be walking the streets for a reason.
5. A teapot and cup will be used within the first section of the video in order for it to relate to the band name "Tom And The Tea Pots" with is ironic as the main girl is the person using this significant prop.
6. Three images of the girls will be needed in the opening scene as the audience will be shown which girl the boy loves.
7.Lanterns will be used in the final scene within the last few seconds to symbolise an ever lasting love as the lanterns are forever flying.

Dialogue
Research has told me its rare to use alot of dialogue and due to the relaxed nature of our video we don't intend on using any, well shall delete any diagetic sound during the editing process. The song 'Charlott' by the band 'Air Traffic' will be the sound track of our video as we found its a very catchy song and will therefore keep our fan base/target audience hooked!

Tuesday

Research - Third Advert Anaylisis

The image to the left is well known due its simplicity, as it is white text on a black background a contrast is created making it very eye catching. The Band Name is exremeley larger than the rest of the text, making the audience look at it first. The text below, bearing the Single Name is not as bold as makes the page look more busy and full. The word 'black' is bigger than the rest of the text with is not only irronic but again attracts attention.  The majority of the text is capitalised, making it easy to read.
The image to the right of this keeps the theme remaining as the colour black is continued . I really like the text as it follows the shape of the CD and contrasts with the background, which suprisily isnt white, she may shock the buyer as it goes against their expectations. The logo is typicaly at the left hand side of the CD which caueses no suprises. The text remains the same as the cover so there are similarities between the two, as the band are almost branded.
The image to the left is another of the bands CD's and by researching this i have learnt how the band remain to keep their fans by retaining a reocurring theme. The text is in the same font on this cover as it is on the preivious one, its also keeping the black and white contrast although in comparision to the previous cover contains far more colour. I like the composition of this cover as your eye is drawn to all three focal points. The simplicity of this cover works, and is something i will keep in mind.
I love the originality of this CD as its simplistic and quirky. During my research i have found this cover has had an influence over currents bands, proving its impact. The bold colour attracts attension and adds to the simplistic theme. The plain white background allows a clear focal point and large contast with the blue, the white text over the blue again keeps the contrast and relates to the background.
I like how the front and back covers closly relate as a clear theme is kept. Again the contrasting theme remains as the white text hugs the colourful image. The centrlised image keeps a mid line focus due to the amount of colour ans detail it contains. The barcode is possitioned bottom right which is re-occuring and therefor something i must remember when it comes to compleating my finished digipack. The list of songs are placed to the left hand side which is also something i must remember. Again the blue is a used so the CD page links and the digipack  looks complete.

Research - Second Advert Anaylisis

The text is all in lower case, which gives the advert a child-like appearance, which ties in with the two porcelain objects in the image. The text is a light colour, grey/white which contrasts against the dark background making it stand out and easy to read. The Single Name font is different to the Band name font, this individualises the band from their new album. The Band Name is always the same font on their album covers and posters, creating a brand logo/name. The text towards the bottom of the page is more subtle due to its size, yet remains the same colour the Band Name, which allows the theme to remain the same.
The image in the foreground is of two porcelain dolls, both of which look like girls and are slightly angel-like. The whiteness of the image suggests purity, which relates to the Single Name as ignorance stands for - unintelligence, inexperience, both characteristics would be found in young girls or angels.

Monday

Research - First Advert Anaylisis

The size of the text for the Band Name is large and capitalised, this attracts the viewers attention and draws their eyes in. The next line down bears the Album Title, the album is called ARTWORK, again, the text is capitalised, which makes it easy to read and stands out, and it fits the same style as the Band Name. The Band Name and the Album Title are both in black, where as the release date is red, the text is on a white background which allows the text to contrast against it. The more important pieces of information are at the top of the advert, and the less important text is smaller and nearer the bottom, drawing your attention to the top of the advert. On the front cover, the background of the image is black which frames the image in the foreground, marking its importance. The cover is surrounded in a ink like substance which creates a gruesome effect and links the image with the Album Name. The image in the foreground is of someone tattooing themselves with the word 'work', the needle says the word 'Art' spelling out the album name. The image in the foreground fits with the Album Name as tattoos can be classed as 'Art Work'.

A Changed Decision

We have decided to change our second ancillary task from the website to the advert. We found the website design programme hard to use and believe it would be to time consuming to continue using it. We will work as a team during the research process of the advert so we don't fall behind time and all have the same source of inspiration and therefore relatively the same ideas. Although this big decision sounds like a big risk we find it important as we are fully confident we will succeed.

The Band Name

Logo Research
By researching band logos i am able to contribute my ideas to my team members as i have gained a varied understanding of how to attract a large audience and allow our logo to remain looking professional.

I have learnt that a lack of colour is used so the logo remains simple and the large mass of colour attacts the eye, red is know to do this. The shape of the logos all seem to be quite circualar so i shall keep this in mind, the band name is created to fit with this in the majority of the logos i have studied, i like this quality as it helps 'brand' the band.

Band name
The band names above were my main sorce of inspiration for our band name, we tried a number of band generating websites as well as looking at old and less known bands for inspiration. I quite liked the metophore in the name 'Florance and the Machine' as it refers to the other band members as 'the machine' allowing the focus to be made on 'Florance' . 'The Beatles ' although it sounds bazzar at first their one of the most recogninsed bands in music history, the bands random name got it noticed which is what we intend on doing.

Our Logo

We decided to call our band "Tom & The Tea Pots" as we thought it was original and quirky. Tom is the name of our lead singer in the band and the tea pots represent other people in the band who aren’t seen in the video. We chose to illiterate the words so they were catchy and something a new audience wouldn’t forget. As tea is commonly known for being British we thought it would represent the indie pop theme we are trying to represent. We found musical notes would be perfect coming out the tea pot as it links the name with the musical theme. The bold red colour attracts both male and female fans and is a very attention grabbing colour, it also fit with our colour theme and contrasts well with the black text. The musical notes coming out from the tea pot is unique and fit in well with the shape of the logo. Black text has been used as it contrasts well and links in with the text, as if there one. The text has been created to to fit around the musical notes in order to give the logo shape. Fireworks is the programme we used, as we have used it before and therefore found it easy to use, it was perfect for us as the logo only took over an hour to gather and create. A secondary imaged is we used to develop this logo, the colour was changed and flowers around it were removed.

This is a logo quickly designed to represent the music company which has signed the artist. It will be displayed on the digipack as our research has told us its regally done. Its plain black and white style makes it easy to be applied to any background. I used both publisher and word to complete this logo which i have used plenty of times before, and therefore found it very easy to complete. I believe the indie style is created in the logo due to its simplicity. I chose this writing as i believe its easy and clear to read and is presented so no matter how big or small. I also thought it was quite a unique font as this is the first time iv seen it. I purposely placed the text along the line of the strings so it would fit the shape of the guitar, making the two one.

Thursday

Research - Website - Mood Board

These mood boards have been created from magazine clippings to show the style and feel we are trying to create in our magazine. The different style and coloured text will keep the site busy yet contrast with the black and white background. The people in the images all have eye contact which is a key feature to attracting an audience and expressing the emotion they are feeling. The thin capitalised text add class yet draws the eye, an equal balance of  colour in the background and colour in the text allows both the text and background to have attention yet contrast.

Research - Music Video - Mood Board

We hope to create a music video keeping this style in mind. Some images show the clothing and look of the characters which we feel would fit best with our indie genre. As you can see we have included black and white images so the video links back to the digipack and the bold contrasting colours link to the website. Both eye contact and lack of eye contact will we used to mark the importance of when the character looks at the audience. Most locations we chose will contain greenery to promote a green way of living, setting a positive role model for fans. The bold natural colours shown on screen will also brighten up the images and contrast with the dark colours our character will wear. Different weather and brightness will show the passing of time which we aim to portray, short snappy clips will also be used to show this.

Research - Digipak - Mood Board

We aim to create a layed back digipack, to do so we will use very little colour, keeping our images in black and white and drawing attention to the more important things/main focus by keeping them in colour. We aim to include both images of people and landscape as our performer will attract the younger audience and the landscape will illustrate locations fans can relate to and 'the beach' for example creates a calm feeling. The text on the cover will contrast with the image/background and become the main centre or focus. We aim to include a track list on the back page as tradition and have this text hug the image/background to create a busy page, this text will also stand out from the background and be a focal point.
